First thing's first, this album is absolutely OUTSTANDING
eek.gif
The musicianship is unmatched, IMO. If anyone has this, can you confirm and answer some questions for me?

1. There are a few reports of the sound messing up in the 5.1 soundtrack after "New Millenium". From what I can hear, the sound goes out in the back right speaker.

2. At various points of the show, there are crackles in the sound (based on the 2ch. soundtrack so far, I have not tested the 5.1 track), most notably during the beginning of "Goodnight Kiss".

3. During almost all of the fast cutaway shots, there is horizontal interlacing or something to that effect for like a millisecond.

For all of you who have this DVD, can you confirm these observations? This is an otherwise ASTOUNDING DVD. I heard that some people are calling for a revision. I hope that happens, this is definitely worth the trouble. I cannot say enough good things about this DVD. Iron_Dreamer, this DVD has your name on it, but I might wait for a revision as hopefully that will happen

the audio does go crazy during New Millenium.. for some people it's not just the right speaker that goes out, but the sub as well. as for the crackles.. i haven't heard anything like that. i've played the entire dvd through twice, once in 5.1 and once in stereo, and i personally prefer stereo.

but yeah, aside from the 5.1 issues.. it's an incredible dvd.

there's a part in the documentary where petrucci is playing a mini electronic guitar in some music shop, and the guy next to him asks 'is that dream theater?'. petrucci is just like, 'yes, it IS'.. and walks off with a grin on his face. lool

BTW, did you see any horizontal lines during the fast changes in camera shots?

I got it, and I love it.....what else can I say....I have not noticed those glitches, I was too deep into the music, but I will look into them as soon as I hear, and watch it again

Hehe, well I guess I might as well get it while I can at only $10. However, if I end up liking the performances enough then I'd want the CD version as well. So ridiculous to buy the same album twice just to be able to hear it whenever I like.

That one is easy: get BeSweet and rip the audio to your HD as a2 ch. .WAV amd splice it with an audio editor. I never get the CD's unless I need to. Try it out.

Ok, I've never heard these guys so can you describe their music on this DVD/CD? I did download one of their songs "As I Am" from Train of thought, and it apears they are Metal. Is that what this DVD/CD sounds like, or is it a more laid back type sound? Their name makes me think of a "Pink Floyd" type sound, not sure why, it just does... So please describe the type of music to expect on this dvd if you can.

Thanks,
Jim

They have a quite varied sound that ranges from lite prog to heavy metal. At points they can sound more like Yes, Kansas, or Pink Floyd, and at others more like Rush, Iron Maiden, or Puppets-Black Metallica. It depends on the album, and moreso the song. Their latest album is almost purely heavy. Their other albums show off their range a bit more, and I expect this live release should as well since it contains songs from all over their career.

train of thought is mostly metal minus a lot of the prog and incredible melodies that DT is known for.. thus, that would be the absolute last album i would recommend for somebody that's just getting into DT - not because it's bad (i like TOT quite a bit), but because that album doesn't show DT's range and ability to write stunningly complex songs. TOT is more of a 'play as hard as you can, as fast as you can' type deal, which is cool.. but like i said i don't think it works well as an introduction to DT.

as for what to expect on the dvd.. there's a lot of TOT material, but then they also play things from many other albums as well.. so it's a well-rounded show.

if you want to get into DT.. most people would recommend Images&Words, but I'd say go with Awake. if they moved The Silent Man over to I&W, and Learning to Live over to Awake.. Awake would be the greatest album ever :O

Great thread... IM ordering mine from Amazon asap.

Thats funny because I didnt think Petrucci typically demo'd gear from music shops... I always thought he bought his gear direct from manufacturers @ NAMM.

Maybe the kid didnt recognize him with buzz cut hair....

My fave albums are SFAM and 6DoIT... Jordan is amazing His melodic phrasing and sense of harmony are incredible, compliment Petrucci wonderfully IMHO. I didnt care much for Sherinian (SP?)

Curious... how would you rate Myung's performance? IMHO ToT has some amazing bass line riffs.

Im listening to liquid tension experiment on my V6's as I type...

Its outstanding as per usual. In the bonus disc, you even get to hear him talk. I've been a DT fan for a long time but I think this is the first time I've heard him talk....
