DR150 vs. HD580

DXC Headphones - Full Size Headphones had the DR150, but now they seem to only carry the 100 and 50 only, they are selling on eBay also, the pair of DR150 went for $72.99 !

Also while you performing the cloth mod, remember to use a cotton swab with some rubbing achool to clean off the flux residue on the solder joints on the driver and PCB board. I also got the red dots off the driver cap for better visual estetiques. The new batch of DR150 uses a much stickier tape to stick the cloth.

I've owned the HD595, DR150 and HD600.

I and have used Cute Encore+Spitfire and currently the 0404USB as my source+amp.
( I'm only a poor guy that likes music a lot and have to save money for other interests -> not a really crazy head-fier )

HD595 :sound-9.2 , comfort-9.8, build-8
DR150 :sound-9 , comfort-8.5, build-7
HD600 :sound-9.5 , comfort-9.5, build-9.5

Although I prefer the balanced sound of the Sennheiser phones, the DR150 has REALLY good, never bloating and well-controlled Bass that I enjoy alot.

The only thing to complain about the Docs ( for their price ) is the build quality.

After 1.5 years of every day use (for I use it A LOT) , the weak plastic part on the adjustable headband begin to show cracks and is expected to be totally broken for within another 1.5 year...

The DR150 is quite small, and if you have a bigger head as I am, I guess you may have the same problem one day...

Rough estimations (guesses) for the life expectancy of the 3 headphones based on the build quality :

DR150 : 3 years -- broken headband at the size adjustment portion
HD595 : 3~4 years -- broken headband at the swivel connector
hD600 : 8~10 years+ ... -- I cannot imagine this headphone is going to break down, possibly the
connectors for wires on both ends... but I heard it's fixable.

Nice rundown. I recently made a DAC and T-Amp splurge for my stax setup and am looking for a relatively cheap replacement for my a900 (gave away). I'm keeping an eye peeled in the FS for 595 or a dr150.
I was just wondering how the soundstage compares to the senns. I was spoiled by ATH.

so now i have th DR150 and i love the sound and i dont find the clamp down too tight. the one complaint i have is that the pads dont really seem deep enough. my ears kind of press against the back. it doesnt really bother me for like at least half an hour but when i listen for a long time it gets a bit irritating. is anyone else having this issue or do my ears just stick out really far?

from what i know of the hd580's modded the dr150's are a completely different sound. the 580'shave a laid back sound with a nice wide soundstage. the dr150's have a pretty flat soundstage and an in-your-face grado like sound. which one is better for you depends on the music you listen to. i listen to mostly rock so i got the dr150. the hd580 needs to be well amped to sound good with rock.
