Ive been careful the past year or so to watch what the popup windows do and keep an eye on what my machine is doing, but sometimes they can still worm into your machine and cause problems. Ive been building and working on computers for about 5 years now so i can fix most problems but i dont think its fair for some people who dont know whats going on.

Some of these programs have bugs and i wonder sometimes if they even test these programs they cram down your throat. These programs can cause your machine to act up then you take it to a shop and pay money to get it fixed. Thats not right if you ask me. I worked on a machine for a friend that was running slow and the first thing i did was search for spyware and it had over 100 files. Im sure there were 20 or more spyware programs running. It took me a few hours just to clean everything out because it had so many programs running. That stop sign program they advertise on Tv. That one is bad news. I uninstalled it and it took like 6 programs with it.

The internet is really getting outta hand.

I wouldn't link spywares and popups to begin with

Actually, i've the feeling it was worse with popup two years ago. But spywares are on the rise and definitely they're boring. But good luck to have any meaningfull legislative text on that.

No, I don't think that we need more regulation.
Popups are easy to avoid by popup blockers, and you can get rid of spyware by routinely searching for and destroying them once per week.
Be careful what you're asking for when you are demanding more regulation, all governments are already trying to control the internet.
A nanny state might be good for people without any computer skills, but trading freedom for security might be the end of anonymity, switching the internet into another medium polluted by political correctness.
I prefer a medium where free speech is possible.

The former USSR tried to protect their citizens from 'alternative' opinions.

Pandora's Box would be opened once again... Give them an inch and they'll take a mile...

Popups are nothing compared to spyware and malware. The latter two should be against the law because thay actually harm computers by SEVERELY slowing them down or making programs not work. Do you think I would get in trouble for putting a tire boot on someone's car or ripping out their distributor cap? I rest my case.

Well i think its wrong to say "you must install this program to continue" or say stuff like "you need this program to view this page" or stuff like "your computer is infected you better install this now" so some one who is new to computers installs these things, after a while they have all these errors because the "recomended programs to be installed" are buggy and havnt been tested. Why should some one have to pay some one to fix their machine because they more or less scam people by telling them they NEED spyware. They dont need to install these programs but they tell you do. That seems wrong to me.

I can see popups like on mtv.com are like adds and things like that but they dont install the crap onto your machine so when you go anywhere you get these popups. It just seems to me like its getting out of hand, like anything i do on the net now i have to be cautious that im not going to be attacked by some jackass trying to make a quick easy buck.

Remember the spycamer one that was everywhere for a while? It shows a picture of some hot girl on a couch. "micro hidden spy camera" How do you tell these people NO!!! I DONT NEED A SPY CAMERA TO SPY ON THE BABY SITTER!

Ok im done (/end of rant) lol

Pop-ups are easily managable, but malware is definitely a pita. I usually stay up to date with spyware blockers and anti-virus, but I had this browser hijacker once.....Ouch.
