My moms dog licks me all the time.. My mom thinks the dog sees me as one of her own & is cleaning me.. Licks my ears, head, back of neck & face.. Does anyone know why some dogs do this more then others.. & what does this mean..

Is it a female? Pixie has a motherly streak, that when she decides we need a cleaning, there's no getting away. She's very methodical and sure of herself, as if "This is going to happen, now you stay still."

She does it in the morning, or when she feels one of us needs calming down. Whether or not we need calming down is another matter.

I think it's a tad dominant, motherly, but the affectionate kind. I'm sure you can discipline the lick-monster out of them, but some dogs are just lick-monsters.

/Neither one of us are sweaters - it's more complex than that IMO. Herd animals like to have flocks.

to me it seems some breeds are all tongue. my auntie had two welsh corgies, flicka and chips, and together they could coat your hands and face in doggie drool in no time.

/man i loved those dogs

Pumpkin only licks humans when we're mutually sleepy, or she's getting some particularly good pats on the noggin, or when we're upset (which she spots before we do, pretty amazing.) All other habitual-type licking she takes out on furniture legs, thank goodness.

Just do what I do, lick 'em back.

I... uh... well... oh, there are so many directions to go with this. And most of them not proper.

Thats like when my dog or cat bites my mom, she will bite them right back, on the ear. They yelp and scurry in the corner.

Um, if you put peanut butter on your body, he'll lick it off. (moment of silence) (whispers) Anywhere.
