Does this seem a good DAC

The parts are good and it looks nicely assembled but that doesn't really mean anything. Only way to tell is to try it out. There is a bit of a non-upsampling, filterless craze going on right now with the TDA1543 being at the center. Personally, I'm not convinced that filterless is a good way to go with a non-upsampling topology. But this sale doesn't mention anything about filterless so who knows if it has one or not. Just my 2 cents, let us know how it sounds if you pick it up.

Hey it's back. It doesn't have the 8 tda1543 running in parallel though, but it does have blackgates etc. If you want something simple ala the Scott Nixon dacs or the Ack, this could be a cheap way out. However, if you don't want to build a kit, what about that completed dac-ah? It uses 8 tda1543 running in parallel. It's cheaper than this ebay dac, but it doesn't have the premium parts. Your call.

Do you think their would be much difference in sound quality?

The DAC I really would like to have a look at is the "dddac1543" from http://www.dddac.de/ but unfortunately they do not do a building service, and I would not stand a chance in building one.

Thanks

This is the same predicament I have. I really would like the DDDAC1543, but they don't sell it assembled. I am considering both the DAC-AH and the Scott Nixon, but I don't know whether it is better to use the 8 chips in parallel without the high-end parts or the 1 chip with premium parts. I really wish someone here had the DAC-AH and could give us some impressions.

EDIT: FIY the DAC-AH uses an r-type transformer inside the case. I would think this would be an advantage because you might get cleaner power, but it could also produce interference or noise. Anyone have an opinion?

Instead of this dac on ebay why don't you try the mark levinson no 36 dac which is also on ebay. At least you know the mark levinson is going to be good!!!!

I like the sound of a few non-upsampling DAC I've heard. The upsampling was way overrated with big upsample stickers and now an over-balance has occurred where non-upsampling is getting a bigger craze then it deserves.. crazy audio world

I'll let you know when I've bedded it in! I took a chance and bought it to see if it's any good. PSU supplied was a bit on the cheap side so I'll get that sorted by the weekend and plan some tests using it on various sources.

A quick listen tonight (it only arrived today) was quite promising, the soundstage was wider which I like and plenty of detail. Maybe a bit bright but time will tell when I get to trying it the weekend.
