I know it's designed for games, but as a Dolby Headphone product I'm wondering if it works well with movies. I've heard varying reports on the subject but no concrete details.

Most definitely yes! Try with cans with 80Ω or less.

Could work, but not as loud as we want, as it was mainly designed for games. aside from that the mixamp does not do DTS.

The Dolby Encoding is where it's really at. But yea it does a nice job of making things louder.
