Does source matter for headphone burn-in?

I just got a pair of AKG K701 and has been burning in for the past 30 hours using iPod Nano's headphone out playing music at regular listening volume.

My question is, does the source matter? Should I use my CD player --> DAC --> amp? My concern is that continuously playing the CD player will wear it out sooner.

Doesn't matter. You're still moving the drivers in the headphones regardless of the source.

You could put the Nano at max volume, though. They'll burn in more quickly that way, and the headphones can definitely take it. It's totally safe.

Ya a nano can't but out enough power to damage the drivers I think, it's all about lossening the drivers up.

You absolutely positive about this? Because I find even some K701's straight into my iPod nano Headphone out at max volume is pretty loud...and I get some distortion, but I assume it;s from the headphone out and the recordings

can playing pink noise at to low of a volume cause any bad effects? or does it just not do as much.
