Over at iLounge, they've been saying how 1.1.1 has decreased SQ in both line-out AND headphone jack (rolloff on low ends, quieter volume, etc.). Is this true??
Does iPod 1.1.1 firmware really decrease SQ?

Dunno.
But are they making any attempt to match SPL when making comparisons.
Using stock earbuds, it seems like my 2 GB iPod Nano needs to be a fairly high level for everything to sound right (high frequencies seems slightly attenuaed at lower levels).

Where did you hear that? I went on iLounge and did a search, and a news release is all that comes up. I've downloaded 1.1.1, and the main changes are support and EQ for the Hi-Fi, as well as a lockable volume limit (to deter lawsuits). From my experience, there's no actual change, for better or worse, to the SQ itself.
