No total silence. It is not disrespectful at all. We would outline what we are offering, under what conditions and under what price and then ask if they are agreeable and then we would sit in silence.

Proverbially, the ball is in their court at that point.

On the team or in other groups is the nature/conditioning of some to not appreciate the silence and to try to fill the void with repeats of the offer, conditions, etc-- which would lead to tangents, finding holes in the offer and subsequently renegotiating the offer without the other party weighing in on their thoughts.

If I were truly slick, I would have sold the guy that offered me $700 a real Rolex and end up coming out on top some how. That would be slick.

I'm not trying to criticize you but one thing you could have said to a lowball offer was 'I've already gotten offers in the 3300-3800 range'.
