Might as well pay the extra $2000 and get it from an authorized dealer.

you would have no clue on how much thought i put into New vs pre owned..
Chicago prices are this..

New from Dealer with Tax: $5900.00
best used price from a dealer with tax for a 2006/07: $4300.00
best used price off tz member or ebay: $3600ish..

i feel comfortable best with option 2, but then again if the tz member has a lot of feedback i would feel better enough to buy it..this is where feedback on watch sales comes in play hardcore.

but to me i know i would wanna sell the watch or its a luckily thought before i buy one. if a buy a new at $5900.00 and try to sell it ASAP i will get a high price of $4500.00 or a low price of $3600...maybe worse.

now do i want to loose $2000.00 on it or break out even like i would with option 3?

this is just for me though..some people plan on keeping the watch their entire life..not me..

also for $5900.00 i can get a heavy hitting brand that surpasses Rolex by mile..

ok to be honest i just cant afford almost $6000 on a single piece now..haha

Yeah I understand what you're saying. Fortunately there is no tax here in NH, and my dad has bought two Rolex's from a pretty good dealer.

And if I bought one I would keep it all my life, I'm not the collecting type.

When it comes to Rolex I agree.... There are too many fakes for me to risk my money on any "deal"

Fair enough. I know in some cultures it is disrespectful not to haggle/low-ball. When I worked with our Japanese partners for a prior employer everything was a negotiation and they always wanted to haggle over everything. We were taught to communicate our price / value and then be quiet for ever! Because they would get you talking and keep you talking until they found a hole in your argument or cost structure and then they would negotiate things to the bitter end.

So I agree with your point of view when you consider things outside of the great States of America. Very true.

A firm $73,000, hmmm, do you think he would accept $72,999?

Bidding that low might have been a waste of time in your case, but as others have echoed, it's not stupid at all. Bidding more than something is worth might be, it depends on the market.

All the guy needs is one desperate or ignorant person in however many he contacts to make the low bidding worthwhile.

I can certainly understand when someone is trying to get a deal on something, but I think that I have the right to feel upset that I am getting a worthless offer for a seriously expensive item. And when I let said person know that I did not appreciate the first offer, I get a second slap in the face with $900.
Someone did there research and contacted me with info on why they are submitting the price that they are. They showed me other auctions for "new in box" watches and there prices, and then some used ones. To me, that shows respect, that they actually want to purchase my item, but want to get the best "respectable" price. If I had an item that had no real worth for sale, then I can see offering a whatever price. "Jessica Alba's worn panties - Pink", Buy It Now price of $10,000. This is an item of no real value, so even if someone offered $1000 for it, who cares, its of no real value.
A Rolex watch can be appraised for a real value, and it aint $700 or $900.
I wasn't in Europe dealing with a local, I was dealing with a disrespectful prick that wants to insult me with a dumb offer.
I don't expect everyone to agree with me, I just wanted to vent because I never dealt with this in all my years. I do sell a lot of stuff face to face and I can never picture this happening any place other than the internet.

Maybe the thread title should read "Does the internet make people disrespectful?"

I replied back to him that I do not appreciate the blatant low ball offer and that if it was a mistake (maybe he meant $3700?), then I apologize. He replied back that it wasn't a mistake, but that he apologizes for giving a low ball offer.

So he tries again........$900!!!

He might thought that your price was listed in Peso, and he did you a favor to give an offer in US dollars.

you say yes to all three you have your self a deal..hell i will pick the item up myself.

Don't worry i don't need the Warranty cards, papers, but Divers link and tool kit would sweeten the deal so much more..

I agree!
When someone open a sale with no price point they should expect to get low some low offers. Not everyone know a certain products current going rate and place a low bid to be safe...
Being offended by this is stupid.

on a Sea dweller without lug holes there is noway it will drop below $3500 used. if it does then i think its a fake...

No I completely understand that. Each Seller is different. Ive even seen some toy vendors who won't budge. And yeah I agree you shouldnt go down that low just sort of like a thought process of why people lowball.

Thats quite interesting. Just stay quiet. I would imagine that would seem disrepectable. Do you mean total silence or more like, thats my price, a minute later, thats my price, thats my price type of thing?
