Does Converting 320kbs MP3 to ALAC Do Anything?

Well, iTunes let me convert my 320kbs MP3's into its ALAC format, but I'm skeptical as to whether it does anything other than increase the file size. Do I actually get better quality by taking my original file and changing it?

The data lost when encoding to MP3 can't be restored. If you want to go Apple Lossless you are much better of encoding directly from the original source (ex. CD).
