Does anyone remember a story like this?

On the 5th of June, 1975, Pink Floyd were holding a small party in the studio to mark the final mix of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Several EMI staff were there, and David Gilmour's girlfriend, Ginger.

Roger Waters was in the microphone room, doing re-takes on the lines he thought needed redoing, when he looked into the corridor and suddenly stopped

Roger pointed curiously at what he saw. A bald-headed, fat man in a white trenchcoat had somehow found his way into the studio corridor.

"Who's that?" Roger mouthed through the window. Engineer John Leckie turned on his mic and said: "I'm John, I'll be filling in for a while." "No" said Roger through his mic, "who's that bloke over there?"

John Leckie looked over to the right, and recognised the man immedieately

The man was brushing his teeth with a strange little toothbrush. John Leckie was stunned. Soon, Roger began to realise who it was. There were tears in his eyes.

The man seemed to have a faraway look in his eyes, as if he was almost totally in another world.
Soon, David Gilmour realised who it was, too. Gilmour walked up to the man and asked, quite stunned: "Hey Syd, how you doing?"
All he could do was smile.

Isn't that disturbing?

You need to go back to the likes "Pipers at the Gates of Dawn", "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "Ummagumma" to hear Sid Barrets work with The Pink Floyd. For Pink Floyd Fans Sid is a living legend. He was living with his Mom last anyone heard.

Anyone for "Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict"?

In “The Wall” there’s a backwards message in “Empty Spaces” I think that’s the song, it’s been awhile. “What shall you use to fill in the empty spaces” the message is “send your suggestions to (supposedly Sids nursing home address) care of old pink”.

Just some trivia.

Another sad story of a drug overdose gone bad. Everyone still wonders just how much better PF would have been had Syd not taken enought LSD to get a small town high for a week!! Their music was revolutionary before he left, I imagine it would have been slightly better had he stuck around. They probably would not have had DSOTM exactly, but with his input it might have been different AND better!!

Thank God he was so fried he didn't know what was going on in the studio. Imagine if you walked in to where your old friends and band mates were, only to have them not recognize you!! Poor guy!!!

it's a great story of a still greater band, Pink Floyd could never be the same with or without Syd after all the drugs, but I saw Roger live in 1999 and the David Gilmour dvd is awesome! The division bell is also rumored to be a call from the band to Roger to end all the petty bickering between the remaining members and although I admit to being skeptical if you listen to the lyrics of the album it lends creedance to the argument. Can anyone say reunion tour??? $$$$$$$$ ?????

I've been hoping that they would get together for over a decade!!! That would indeed be something indeed, but I doubt will ever happen. some wounds are better left healed and closed that re-opened afresh.

well, Rick Wright played with David Gilmour this year in one of his acoustic sets, Nick Mason sat in with Roger Waters at one of his concerts, I guess it's just a matter of getting Waters and Gilmour back on the same planet again, I mean really, Roger has already sold out on his old beliefs about playing to large audiences in big stadiums, what is left of this old stupid feud anyway???

If there were a Pink Floyd Re-union Tour there'd be a lot of old geezers like me there. Bald and gray for as far as the eye could see.

When I saw the Momentary laspse of Reason tour you couldn't see the ceiling there was sooo much smoke.

I wonder what the average age of the attendees would be at that concert?? Also, how many would go with ear plugs so that they don't ruin their already going bad hearing.

I thought I heard rumoured, that Waters and Gilmour were reuniting for a one off concert somewhere, earlier in the year...

If none of you have heard about it... then I guess it didn't happen...

Is there any idea if PF are to be releasing any more NEW albums, rather than a best of collection, and a live rendition of DSOTM, and other odds and ends ~ which is basically what Pulse was?

I don't really know the Syd Barrett era... The first album I heard was Meddle ~ don't know if he was on there... and then all the regular (mid 70s onwards) albums...

a tragic reminder matthew, of just what drugs do to you

Emotional torment inspires the greatest works. I'd not be so quick to assume a happier Pink Floyd with Barret on board would be better than the Pink Floyd we had. Too much is romanticized of this.

I saw Floyd on both the Momentary Lapse and the Division Bell tours. I saw Waters on the last tour. It is obvious to me now that Waters was the most important element of this band regardless of his ego issues.
