I want to buy the used RAM to upgrade my sister's pc but I dont know what type of Ram it is, nor does she. I only know the precessor is AMD Athlon 1GHz (Thunderbird). Is there anyway to figure out the RAM type for it?

My friend also asked me what type of Ram should he get for his old P-II system (366Mhz) and I am noy sure. Is there any website that has some kind of table which tell the Processor type vs Ram type? That would be very useful.

i reckon its not worth it to upgrade old RAMs... it cost a lot, that if you can still find them... i assume you are talking about the old SD RAM..

the best solution is to upgrade the whole thing, IMO.

That AMD system is from around the time that we were transitioning between SDRAM and DDR RAM so it could be either. If the RAM says PC100 or PC133 on it then it's SDRAM. If it says PC1600, PC2100, or PC2700 then it's DDR RAM.

Your friend's system probably uses SDRAM but it might also use EDO RAM in which case he's screwed because that's really hard to find and really expensive these days.
