I would really like to try this type IC- plus I think it looks great, but cannot justify the $120 price tag at ALO right now. Does anyone else make a cable similar that is not quite as much?

Try posting a WTB in the FS Forum.

Alex does (apuresound). A little cheaper at ~$90 I think.

I think the wires are covered with kapton as well, which isn't a good dielectric from its specs.

I am not sure if this is correct. Crystal Cable uses kapton (as some have revealed) which is said to exhibit good mechanical and electrical properties in its full series of expensive cables.

Larry from LaRocco Audio also uses kapton in its very impressive SilC cable.

I was told the real downside of kapton is that it is pretty expensive.

I actually use 2 layers of Kapton followed by a layer of Teflon as insulation on all of my cables making the ultimate insulation without any added stiffness.

You are correct. If used properly it is amazing.

Thanks,
Alex
