I was browsing in Audiocircle and read this article.

The reviewer Danny, owner of GR Research, thinks this amp is way beyond the Melos. He was auditioning the amp with Grado. No picture whatsoever, but price ain't bad.

gary dodd's email address is gldodd@comcast.net if you want more information. that guy, danny, seems to regularly introduce his products over at audiocircle and so far hasn't seen a dodd audio product he hasn't liked, as far as i can tell. as far as his bias, i guess you have to draw your own conclusions. looks to me like dodd bases a fair amount of his circuitry work on melos designs, so maybe danny's claim isn't so far fetched.

Okay, Dave-the-Rave, what grand statement are you making here?

It's too difficult to take that thread seriously at all.

First, it's in the GR Research forum which is moderated by the poster who owns GR Research. Also, GR Research sells Dodd's regular pre-amp and amp. Presumably, they will sell the headphone amp at some point.

The entire post sounds like a really badly scripted infomercial (not that there are well scripted informercials) rather than a review. It has enough cliches to sound like a "review" to the naive but it seems nothing more than horn-tooting.

I'm surprised that it doesn't mention tube complement despite mentioning a lot of other stuff.

What's even more funny is the last post in the thread presumably by someone else who was there to listen to the amp. He is the one who mentions that the headphones were the SR-60s and some $1000 pair of Grados (HP-1000? RS-1?) and we all know that the SR-60s, as good as they are, can hardly be compared to the top Grados.

Gee, I thought I'd get flamed by Texans, not by Team Grado. In any case, relax, I just bought a pair of SR-200's in search of that elusive "neutral" Grado sound.

Off-topic alert (sorry)... I have to agree. Recently heard a pair of HP-1000's and felt that they were anything but neutral (they sounded nice and build quality is superlative, but...). I seem to be drifting away from Team Grado, and will probably end up selling my SR-60's to help pay for a used pair of Senn HD-600's (waiting until widespread presence of the 650's help drive down the price).

Edit -- With all due respect to Wilson -- I'm not flaming his choices and personal preferences/opinions, merely expressing mine (the usual disclaimers apply). They're just headphones, people.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming (flaming?)...

Just a question, no flame. If it was a flame, it would have had a couple more lines I deleted before posting.
