I couldn't help wondering. The infamous Dork Factor is certainly there, though in my opinion most full-sized headphones have SOME level of dorkdom to them, visually. Then there's the isolation factor. Max isolation is perfect for me (airplanes, libraries), but what about you?

P.S. I don't think it's the "c-clamp" look that uglifies the 280 Pro so much as the those little balls on top of each earpiece. I call it the "Sailor Moon Look."

Of course!

Besides, after you've worn K1000 and CD3000, the HD280s are downright svelte.

btw, those ball and socket joints allow the cans to fold flat or fold up. Since I think all headphones should fold flat, I will put up with the mechanism.

Funny. I thought of those 2 exact headphones which are a bit "weird" in public.

Never fearing dorkdom, I wear them at the gym. I've gotten only a few funny looks and only a couple of comments (Why?--Because they block out the top 40 trash on the loudspeakers here...).

Yep, not to lift, just for riding the bike and stairclimber. They get a little hot, but I need the isolation. I might look like a dork, but everyone else has on ridiculous streetstyles and the like!!

I'm already conscious of the dork factor of my V6's, but the pictures of the 280's I've seen make the V6's look small. So if I had them, I most definately would not be wearing them in public.

(personally I think the portapros and grados look dorkier than any of the closed cans. Especially the porta pros. What the heck was Koss thinking with that blue plastic?)

If I saw someone wearing a pair of HD-280 Pro's in public, I'd tell them to get a good sounding pair of headphones (trouble is, they wouldn't hear me with those nasty looking things on)...

At work maybe... well okay admittedly I've done it, but people don't have much to say after they've heard them...

Outside, no sorry, I think I'll stick to the PX100/200 or MX500's...

Speaking of the MX500's I saw somebody with a pair the other night when I was in Hollywood... It's nice to see that we're not such a rare breed and not everyone buys that sony crap. Now if retail stores like frys and goodguys would start carrying MX500's maybe more people would realized that while Sony does make some really nice high end stuff their low end stuff is crap.
