Ah well...

I've always wanted to build an amp with dials for everything from power use/voltage to offset voltage to internal temperature... Never gotten around to it though.... It would be sort of like motherboard monitor for your amp!

the above "blinky thing" is actually a self contained color organ chip from National Semiconductor.Toss a couple of colored LED strings on it and a cheezy radio shack omni electret mic element to pick up the sounds from your speakers and you too can have a "blinky" thingy !

No, but I used to stare at my PC's defrag screen which is sort of similar.

That reminds me I haven't defragged my PC for ~ a year.

I used to really like VU meters (the mechanical ones to you young'uns) much more fun than digital peakers. there was something hypnotic watching those needles whizz across the scales.
