Do you say David Bowie as in 'Joey' or as in 'BOW-ee'?

I'm sorry... but you have been mis-informed. David Bowie changed his name because there was already a David Jones singing in the U.S. at the time. His name is David "Davy" Jones of the Monkees. It's common knowledge that you can't use the name of someone else in show biz.

I'm not sure if the first response went thru... but I don't know where you got your info. David Bowie changed his name because there was already someone with the name David Jones. His name is David "Davy" Jones and his was the lead singer for a group called the Monkees at the time David Bowie began in the U.S. That is why he changed it.. NOT because he didn't like his name.

I love David Bowie's music and always will. It's BOWIE... JOEY. Alway has been and if some little chippie wants to pronounce it incorrectly... miss Lavigne should have been corrected... no matter how it made her look. lmao

How does a "B" sound ever make a "J" sound in the English language?
