Do you prefer the HD600s or the 650s?

I've been using both for quite a while and I must say, while I see the strengths in both, I have an overwhelming preference for the 650s. I listen mostly to classical music and find that the 650s give off a smoothness that no other headphone can, and I own some that cost nearly 3 times as much as the 650s. I'm just in love with them. The only fault I see in the design of either of them (and of course its not really a fault) is that they're open cans and let noise in. Other than that I find the 650s to be the best headphones for classical music listening and personally cannot imagine better sounding headphones.
I'm curious to know how others feel about these two great headphones comparatively

Of those two I prefer the HD650.
I don't really like any of them though...

I haven't heard the HD650, so I'm probably not a good one to make comments. But I got the HD600 as a complement to my MS2i because they are both somewhat a more neutral and analytical design and my intention was to use them almost as a set of instruments for disassembling music.

....which I am and they are working great in this capacity.

I leave my system with no equalization at all and both sets of phones sound perfectly natural to me with the types of music I happen to be listening to with whichever cans seem to fit at the moment.

So with the cables of my HD600 and MS2i forever intertwined, the HD600 is probably MY better choice.

Speaking of "Immense"!

As I'd mentioned earlier; I don't have the HD650 to compare to, but when I get the rare chance to fire up my complete home system with surrounds and sub and put in some really big classical stuff and just let 'er rip, then I take on a completely different mindset and just let the music do its' thing!

I suspect that my speaker system is in reality my HD650!

'Immense' is pretty much the word whenever I put on the HD-650, regardless of whether I am quick-switching between the two Senns or not. There's just something in the way the HD-650 delivers musical messages that puts it a class or two above the rest.

I don't know about your speakers (which I haven't heard) but I can say for sure my Quad speakers share a lot of similarities with the HD-650: especially the smooth midband and balance. Soundstage is superior on the Quads however; they can paint a concert hall-sized soundstage, a strength not found even with many speakers in its price bracket, including the Epos M12.2 I had auditioned. Now if only they had the superb low-bass extension of the HD-650. Perhaps I should upgrade to the Quad 22L or perhaps I shouldn't....

I didn't got the chance to try the HD600, but i owned their little brother 580. And i can tell that they were fantastic headphone for the price. Even though i love my new HD650 it will take some time of burn in and getting to know each other before they justify the price difference, maybe a reca ble will help this hehe.

Not only do I prefer the 650 over the 600...but I like the balanced 650/Zu more than anything but the Sony R10, and if done right L3000.

I prefer the HD600.

Many people here seem to prefer the balanced HD600 or 650 as the favorite Senn.

Singel ended, I way prefer the 600, but I will dig further once the balanced dynamic amp is finished.

I do own both and I vastly prefer the Omega II.

If forced to choose between the two Senns I'd slightly prefer the HD650s because they are a bit more refined.OTOH the frequency balance of the HD600s is more even.I guess it's a question of preferences.
