Do you prefer "fun" headphones or "reference" headphones?

What do you guys prefer? Don't say both! If you had to go with one, would you go with careful listening, hence, reference style or go with the mac daddy, fun?

Fun. I want more bass than reference gives. I don't care if the mids are recessed. It's a trade off for emphasis on bass.

Like I said in another thread, I'd take the sound of the XB700s and DT770 Pro 80/M50, over the DT880 and RE0s.

Never said I was an audiophile.

I find use in both types though.

Reference if that's what you'd call something like the Shure SRh-840 and UE TF10. Of course this might change now that i've tried the HD-600. I don't think those would ever be considered reference quality, but I really like them!

Actually, I happen to consider a revealing, "reference" headphone to be fun.

I haven't heard a reference headphone, so I'll say fun? I think my love of detail and, recently, imaging will lead me from Grado to reference very soon. However, I'm sure fun phones will always have a place in my heart.

My preference is for balanced headphones as they are better all rounders and the sound better suites me. That being said, I think there's always room for at least 1 set of fun headphones like a Grado or Denon.

What, you can't listen to classical without wanting to dissect it reference style?

You know, back in the day they didn't call it fun, they called it musical. So no, I don't like fun phones. Musical phones for me then.

It was always a preference for musical over analytical in the past but today reference is preferred to fun. Think about it.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but both of those are more on the fun side than the neutral and balanced reference side!
