DO YOU NEED TO GET USED TO NEW HEADPHONES?

I hope that you can figure out what is causing the pain :frowning2:. has it been figured out if its the pressure or the treble or what?

In regards to DACs it just depends on how much you want to budget for it. I think the Chord Mojo is a killer dac for the price and also its truly portable. I used to own a dac that was pretty cheap and I didn't hear much difference between that and my laptops internal dac. I would share what the name is but since we (MTME) doesn't sell that brand I can't say on the public forum.

Hey Craig, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Unfortunately I couldn´t figure it out. But definetely get pain and even some mild ringing from my nighthawks. But this has been the same with the DT 770 pro, B&W p7 etc. So I guess thats just not for me. And thats okay, its just hard for me to accept things I dont understand. The ENT´s have no real clues. Ears are fine. All they can think of is, that the large membranes inside of the over-ear headphones cause the problems. Talked to Tyll from Innerfidelity about it, he also didn´t have a clue. As I said, thats okay, maybe just not for me. But it definetely is annoying since I don´t know the real reason. Have you ever heard of anyone being unable to use over ear headphones? Would you think open-back cans would make it better, since the soundwaves can escape the cup (thats how I imagine it?)
Anyway, thanks alot for the comment on the dac as well!
Best

Open backed cans will still cause a pressure difference between both sides of your eardrum which is the issue I think you're having. Certainly try, but I would imagine it'd be the same story :(

I would definetly try an open back to see if the closed backs are the culprit... I have read a couple times before people having problems with them so it’s worth a shot.

Do you have any headphone stores around you that you would be able to sit down and a listen a while? That way you wouldn’t have to buy an open back to find out.

Side note- I am glad to hear that the ENT doctor said your ears are healthy. That’s the #1 important thing!
