Do you have tinnitus?

Watching the poll results made me instantly turn down volume from low to lower...

Got high frequency ringing when quiet around. Sometimes worse than other times. Gotta be careful.

I had a problem like this about 2 months ago. I was experiencing something like squaking, sine at 19-20kHz. It was terrible, I couldn't stand it. I went to an ear specialist and he made something like deep ear-washing. But after that, I still heard that terrible whistling in my ears. After a few days, I forgot I had something like tinnitus - it almost disappeared. Sometimes, I hear it, sometimes not. I hope it would not get any worse... anyway, I am 18 and I have no clue, where could I get it from... I listen to my headphones at fairly low volumes (but I didn't use to

). Now I am much more careful about my ears, I dropped my normal listening volume and I also care about the listening fatigue. Hope it's still not late.

Anyway, it's a surprising result for me that almost 58 per cent of head-fiers are experiencing tinnitus

PS : When someone turns on a CRT TV, I hear that CRT screen squeaking at something like 17-18kHz... and sometimes it's kinda annoying. Is this ok ?

My mom picked up this product for me yesterday (scroll down for tinnitus).

No relief yet, but I'll report back when the fist batch is gone.

I also take gingko biloba 3 times a day, and while it has not cured my tinnitus, it certainly helps.

Have it for several years now. Think I've got it on a metal festival 13 years ago.
Now I have earplugs with me all the time, but back then I went to those festivals unprotected.

I hear a high pitch tone all the time when it's quiet, when i'm in bed, on the toilet, wearing hearing protection headphones, earplugs,...
When i'm tired it gets worse. When i'm down it's worse.
I've read somewhere that coffee can make it worse but i'm a caffeine junk so... ;_;
I've learned to ignore it, when i think of it i 'hear' it better.

Recently, I have noticed that my ears are rather sensitive. Much more sensitive than the others.
Very loud sources like a jackhammer on the street are simply unbearable (when 2-3 metres close), I must cover my ears by hands, while the others have no problem when going around it.
It is even worse, when it's some kind of burst.

Is something wrong with my ears, or am I simply sensitive ?

Don't have it, never had it, unless you count slight ringing after loud gigs (audience & playing) thirty+ years ago. Listening to recorded music has never provoked any problems I'm aware of (thankfully). In case it's relevant, I'm 54...

Edit\ OT I know but I have to ask, what the hell do gigs/concerts sound like w/ ear protection in? Surely muffled & treble cut to some degree?

I have chronic tinnitus in my left ear, which I can hear it pretty strongly right now (ringing) but usually it's not noticeable at all. You tune it out.

If it works, please report back and spread the message!

I don't think that will do anything but make you look dumb.

The last 5 or 6 concerts that I've been to I wadded up a little tissue and put it in my ears to filter the harsh highs a bit. It's a little ghetto but it works. The trick is to get the right amount without it sounding too muffled. I have a little tinnitus and I'm a little paranoid about it so I don't want to take any chances. I have been meaning to get some ER20's ( Etymotic Research, Inc. - ER•20 High Fidelity Earplugs )
