Do you have tinnitus?

I don't know at home there's usually too much background noise to really tell, computer power supplies, tv trafos etc.

Sometimes when it's really quiet I think I can hear a very, very quiet, dull sort of ringing, however it only seems to be when I think about it... psychological ?

Anyway, sometimes I get this bad ringing for about 30 seconds every now and then. Sounds as if someones gone to the end of a VHS and playing that over and over while my head is in a bucket. That seems to come from nowhere and dissapear just as suddenly though.

I have a very high pitched ringing in my ears at all times although it's not very loud. Only notice it in quiet environments and "silence".

Sometimes at complete random (randomly every few months?) I'll get a massive ringing in an ear for 20 minutes or so

Also a lot of the time when I think my ears are ringing, i'll turn my head to see if the sound location changes, usually it does

it's something else!

I have a faint, high-pitched ringing that I only hear in quiet environments (going to bed at night, earplugs). It's not distracting at all in day-to-day life, but noticing it has been brought to my attention. I've been wearing earplugs to concerts for over ten years (I'm 31 now), and I am a lot more sensible about headphone volume levels than I have in the past. My nervous system is highly sensitive anyway, so my ears can fatigue pretty quickly if there is enough noise around.

I used to get it all the time as a teenager (before I ever had headphones). I get it now sometimes, but mostly when my allergies are really kicking up. One of my computers at work has a constant high pitch whine that is very annoying when I'm listening to quiet music.

Well, I had my appointment with a specialist yesterday. He said that while nothing looks out of the ordinary, he would like to send me for an Auditory Brainstem Response test because my tinnitus is in one ear only and there is slight hearing loss in the upper frequencies in that ear.

Anybody else have this test? What can I expect?

i received mine at a concert a few years back. I took a friend to see his favorite band (kittie) dont ask...anyhow, the singer shrieked into the mic and the speakers omitted this horrifying noise...it was so loud it felt as if someone was stabbing me in the ears with knives. Ever since ive had a slight ringing. It can be "annoying" at times, but its really not so bad. When the ambient noise is present i can hardly hear the tinnitus, but when its not (like now, after reading this thread) i can hear it pretty well.

oh well

needs to be a "speak up I can't hear you over this ringing noise" option

I hear it when I have my ear plugs in, faint though.

I wouldn't say mine's barely there, but it doesn't drive me nuts. While loud music, and especially a couple loud concerts pre-ER20, certainly worsened it, I don't mind it so much. But, I've had it as far back as I can remember, likely first getting it in one of many ear infections as a kid.

I aggree, but it's not always easy to measure db levels on all headphones.

Here's how I measured db level on my UM1. Not sure how accurate it is, or how to accurately measure an IEM.

From the same thread, is Skylab's method of measuring db level of headphones with thick ring pads.

If my method for the IEM is accurate, it could be used for headphones with flat pads like KSC75 or PX100. I'm planning on making an appointment with an audiologist to get custom ear tips. I'll ask about testing IEMs when I go.

I have it from a party last night. I don't even go to these things often but this time the EQ was insane - far too much treble. I could hardly hear a thing when I left. Please tell me this isn't permanent.

I have a faint "ringish" noise in my left ear that is noticeable only in really REALLY quite environment or when I put in earplugs.

It is due to shower water hitting the inside of my left ear directly (at my stupid university's dorm) though and not due to listening to headphone or speakers really loud.

Loud music or loud noises will bring on the ringing. I avoid loud music and try to avoid loud noises. That helps.

My heart medication brings on light ringing. I can't very well avoid that.

Drinking coffee when added to the medication brings on loud ringing.

....after nearly 60 years, I've pretty well given up coffee.
