I just pulled the trigger on the 440s (curse you, Head-Fi!), and I'm big into comfort (My DT990 Pros are acceptably comfortable); I read that the 840 pads would be better on the 440s, comfort-wise, but I was wondering if they'll affect the sound. Additionally, does anybody know if there are there other pads that would fit the 440s? Velour? DT250? DT770? Thanks for any help.

I've tried the 840 pad on the 440, and imo I feel the sound is very unbalanced afterwards. The bass is definitely improved with a lot more punch, but I feel the overall sound to be duller and really bass-oriented afterwards. I decided to stick with the 440 pad on my 440.

Do you prefer the sound of the 840s to the 440s (I tend to fall on the Grado side of things)?

Are you inquiring about the pads or the actual 840 headphones?

The headphones themselves. I was wondering if I should've perhaps waited and sprung for the 840s instead of the 440s.
