Do Comply tips ever give the best sound?

i tried them on IE7 and now on my Westone 3.

seems like they always muffle the highs and music sounds just pathetic..even the soundstage is reduced.

am i doin something wrong or are comply's not designed for giving great sound quality at all?

I have to say from my experiences that complys cut off the highs too much for my taste. I can't see how people can't stand it, but I suppose it's possible we're both doing something wrong.

I think they definitely gave better sound on the NE7M's.

It'll depend on certain things for sure. For people who are looking to dampen highs on brighter phones I think they'd be great too.

Size of the Comply can make a difference too. An example is the UM3X. They came with small and large Comply tips. The small ones really hurt the highs and made the sound just kind of congested and overly warm, while the large comply tips actually brought some treble energy out and sounded really good.

I think they sound superb Use them on Ety4p, have had them on TripFis--wonderful on them--and a few others I forget at the moment. I did find, however, that I had to go to one size smaller; to me, that meant going from "M" to "S", esp with Etys. Didin't isolate as well, but kept everything balanced so much better

1. I can't seem to get comply tips deep enough into my ear.
2. The foam itself folds over the nozzle too often for my liking.

Those are the 2 problems I have with comply tips muffling treble with both my custom 3's and my tf10's. With enough effort I can eventually get them inserted perfectly but the benefits aren't worth the frustration to me.

Could be people's different ear canal anatomy, I suppose.

I swear by them but I hate the hygiene issue. Luckily I have very clean ears so a pair actually last me at least 5-6 weeks. I wish like heck I could find any silicone tip that gives me as good a sound but the presentation always sounds "off" to me with silicones, tri-flanges, etc. Etymotic was the only IEM where I had success with tri-flanges and could live with the sound but I STILL thought their supplied black foamies did better. The foams sound smoother and more natural to my ears.

As mentioned in a different thread, compress the comply BACKWARDS toward the housing before inserting. If you do this it should in no way ever block the exit hole. The exit hole is also larger than the exit hole of a silicone tip which I think helps the sound too.

It depends on what you use them, at least that has been my experience. They muddy up my Sennheisers (both the ie7 and ie8), but they sound great on my Ortofon e-q7 and my Thinksound Rain. Never had any size to fit the Shure when I had it, or the HF5. So again, it's a hit or miss depending on the earphone you are using.

I tried the backwards flip and that prevents the nozzle blockage, but I still have trouble getting them deep enough in the ear canal. To get them in to a decent depth I end up tearing the foam away from the insert. It's not a problem with the size of the tip, there's a turn in my ear that requires a little force to get the tip inserted past. If I just insert them up to that point I get a great seal and isolation so the bass is great, but everything else suffers.

i think the compplys are comfy, but the thing about them is that it alters the sound of what you hear coming out from your iems. it is less fatiguing to wear, but imho, i think a better sound can be achieved with the silicon tips. personally dual flange silicon seems to suit me best. but i like to swap to the complys when i feel tired of the silicon

Interesting, with my Super.fi 5 pro's the comply tips really helped me. The seal is so much better that i found it gives much better bass and soundstage. I'd personally recommend them for anyone who doesn't like the stock tips.

Can't say I've noticed that. The comply foams do seem to give my TF10's a warmer sound though.

I think they make the TF10 sound significantly worse. I might try those Sony Hybrids.. Although i've never really liked silicon tips
