I've got (too) many cans, but my initial foray into the Audio Technica line has been through one of their IEMs, the CK10. I absolutely love the sound produced by these little wonders, and it got me to thinking...

Do AT cans/headphones share a "house" sound? If I really enjoy the CK10's, is it pretty safe to assume that their W5000 would also (more than likely) be to my liking?

Thanks for any input you might have.

AT have a sweet mid and treble for most of their line, but the bass really varies model from model.

Such as the ATH-A (not AD!) series with their heavily recessed midrange.

I think it'd be safe to say that each of their types of headphones (closed, open, and wood) have their own "houses" of sounds.

That is not a given. The Audio-Technica brand is one of the most sonically diverse that I've heard, and I've owned or heard headphones from AKG, Senn, Beyer, Grado, and others.

In the "closed" category, the FC7, ES5, ES7, OR7, ESW9, and A900 do not sound alike. In the "wood" category, the W5000 and W2002 do not sound alike.

I would say from my collective experience with multiple AT headphones that there is no house sound even within the same lines or those made with similar constructive qualities.

x2. The woodies I own now and the 3 I no longer have were all different. Some resembled each other a bit but most of them are quite unique and offer a very different sound.

I love that about AT woodies.
