Hi All,

I am sorry if this question has been posted before, but my searching of the forums did not find this to be the case.

I am a novice to this but to my mind, the sound quality of the my recently purchased iRiver Clix2 appears to be quite good when used with my UE Super.Fi3 Studio canal phones; but I wonder if things could be improved (even slightly) by using a heaphone amp.

One problem is that the Clix2 only has a headphone out socket, ie no low-level line-out socket. So.. In such a case, is there any point in employing an external headphone amp; or am I just doubling-up hardware for the sake of it ?

It should be noted that I am interested in improving sound quality (within the bounds of my current equipment and budget) rather than making loud noises.

TTFN,

Steve

I find no difference when i plug an amp into my Samsung YP-Z5 which also doesn't have a line-out. Maybe it would improve with a line-out or maybe the inbuilt amp is already better than or as good as my GoVibe V6 amp.

I'd say don't bother with an amp for a portable player if used low impedance headphones.

I find my A808 sounds good using the headphone out compared to the line out of my ipod as in big difference.

i don't think there is much to gain (emphasis on much) by using an amp with an ipod or other DAP.
