Something interesting that I've noticed about the K701 - - -

They sometimes make me feel a tad dizzy or disoriented. Does anybody else notice this? And, if so, what's going on? What is it about the 701 that might be doing that?

Three things: first, it's not that big a deal. It's not like listening to them makes me sick. It's SUBTLE.

The second thing is that I don't necessarily have the right audiophile-approved terms for describing this, so bear with me.

Thirdly, it's not any excess of detail or "coldness" or sterility or treble or sibilance that's causing the phenomenon, nor a malfunction. (And no, it's not associated equipment, I'm certain!)

What I think is happening - and again, I'm not sure I'm using words correctly here - is that I'm getting "lost" in the soundstage. Everything is so spread out, I get queasy trying to locate instruments, voices, and sounds in space.

Is it possible the K701 has too big, too great a soundstage? Or is it really, really good, and I'm just not used to such good soundstaging? Or is it artificial, fake-sounding, too exaggerated? And how does imaging (whatever that is) fit in here? Is that what I'm talking about?

Compared to Grados that I've heard or owned, or Sennheisers, or Beyerdynamics, or Stax or Koss stats, it's almost as if the instrumentalists are walking or floating across the stage at times. Not walking far, but shifting a few inches or feet this way then that way. Very disconcerting!

Moving back to the HD650 or HD600, everything locks back firmly into place........

That would be a great fortune cookie.

Well, not drunk, and I don't have any speakers at the moment!

I would assume the problem is the k701's huge soundstage.........

Headphones on backwards? Drivers out of phase?

Does your amp have crossfeed? If not maybe you can borrow or try one and see if that helps. I know I have to have an amp with crossfeed due to head injuries and more laid back cans like Senn's.

Remember - Headphones do not create vertigo
it's Head-Fiers that create vertigo.............or

Maybe it's the discomfort from the headband digging into your skull. Who ever designed it and thought it would be comfortable should be fired.

"Rumack: What was it we had for dinner tonight?
Elaine Dickinson: Well, we had a choice of steak or fish.
Rumack: Yes, yes, I remember, I had lasagna."

I'm guessing you chose the fish?
