I read a post on Audioasylum on how to put together a DIY VPI Scout Dustcover and followed the guy's detailed instructions:

The acrylic pieces were purchased from Tap Plastics - they have local retail stores on the West coast. They charged $15 additional to make the 3 cutouts (2 on the sides and 1 on the back to accomodate the tonearm & IC box). I would have made the cutouts myself, but I don't have a jig saw. Instead of adding handles, I had a notch in the side piece made at 4.5" from each side and 0.75" high (with a total width of 4.25"). Total cost of the project including shipping from WA to KY and a 90 degree clamp was $85. I used 1/4" Acrylite Green Edge FF Acrylic.

Making a DIY cover is a lot cheaper compared to the $250 plinth version cover that is sold at Music Direct and Elusive Disc.
