I am going to be leaving the country soon and plan on brining my soon to be built cmoy altoids amp. Has anyone had any problems with these at airports, not everyone working at the airport are all the that bright, I dont want them thinking its a bomb. Where should I state that I have such an amp? I can just imagine being strip searched because I enjoy headphones.

Any ideas, experiences, or thoughts on this would be great

Nope, never, and I've taken amps of various designs both throughout the country and to Europe.

If you're worried, just print out a label that says "Sony" or "Panasonic" and slap it on somewhere.

Put on a label that says "detonation circuit" and see what happens.

I took my KGSS on a plane a few days ago. Now it's a large black think with one knob sticking out and an unknown connector and I had no way to show them that it does what I say it does, so I thought they wouldn't be thrilled with me getting on a plane with it. But they only did a `bomb` analysis on it and my laptop and let it through.

I almost didn't get on a plane in Portland with my META 42 and Altoid battery case. Even though it was bomb tested through 1st security, I was selected as the special person at the gate. The security looked at the amp, called the cops who asked me if there is anything I should tell them about this before they looked at the amp. They handled it like it was a bomb, ran my drivers liscense and even looked under the 1/16th inch foam in the Altoid case for the explosives. No one would just plug the damn thing in and listen to it! It was in the h-65 case and they could see the electronics through the case so it had bomb written all over it. Finally got on the plane when the airline told them if I didn't get on the plane right now they were closing the door. However, I've traveled through many other airports without a problem.

Likely this won't be responded to, but it's fun digging up old topics... I believe someone posted to one Duncan wrote about Grado's that was more than a year old...

I was taking my not-finished-building CMoy down to North Carolina to show my grandfather (he was an electronics guy in the Navy for 20 odd years), and the first airport (Omaha) was no problem. The second, however, (Greenville/Spartanburg) was a royal screw-up. They took one look at that puppy going through the X-Ray and had security called over so fast... Needless to say, the entire queue got held up while my luggage was checked. I especially liked how they felt it neccesary to hold up my briefs and study them carefully. Ah yes, I also had a large supply of various caffeinated mints (ThinkGeek, boo-yah!) along with me, and they apparently thought these to be drugs, as they opened each package, and proceeded to examine all the mints, closing each one with "I verify this". It was, all in all, quite humorous.
