Hello,
Here are my new 3d printed planar magnetic headphones.
All diy except the drivers.

Vintage soviet 50mm driver
40ohm impendance

3d printed 100mm cups with semi hidden 2 degree of freedom headband fixtures.
Elastic band and metal wire headband
(The metal wire is from a repurposed shirt hanger)
Really light in the head (they are made on my own head measurement so not unexpected)
Leather cushions

Really love this pair.
Nice detailed sound, a bit lacking in the subbass.
Mids and voices really well reproduced, higs are good but not on pair with electrostatic.

Good sounding but not efficient.. Need an amp.
Detailed sound, can't comment on dynamic excursion, not tried yet with a serious amp (using a small fiio player for now)
Imaging is good but i expected a wider soundstage.

They are the most confortable pair of headphones i own.

And here are some photos:

Thanks! The drivers are a copy of the yahmaha drivers of the '70/'80.

The russian copy were produced up to the early '90.

Never listened to modern planar magnetics but i am sure they can't compare: modern drivers uses neodimium magnet bars while mine are old milled ferrite magnets much less powerful magnetic field.

The diaphagram traces are thicker than modern ones because the technology to produce them were much more primitive.

They still are good drivers and they sound fairly well but i don't think they can compare with the advancements magnetoplanar tecnology had in the last few years

Must be H16-40S drivers, aka TDS-16 drivers. Would have been manufactured mid-90's probably. I just ordered a pair of NOS H16-40S on ebay for ~$50 shipped.

The key to greater sub-bass on an open-back ortho is going to be thinner pads.

And maybe some damping material behind the driver.
