And what about the 0.8 vs the 0.4 mm silver wire?...which is more recomended for these sorts of applications?

If you think Switchcraft will kill your budget, then you're looking at the wrong website. Go to audioadapter.com; they have the best prices on Switchcraft products I've seen. For Neutrik products, try www.markertek.com.

Btw, thin wire is fine for interconnects. 28, 30 AWG solid core is a good size. Outside of head-fi, I don't see much use of large gauge wires in interconnects.

BUY THE BIG CONNECTORS!!! Don't get the mini ones. They suck for the zvm. I just made another zvm dock with the big connector, not only does it fit the zen properly, but it also is easier to get the resistor in! You will have to trim the small ones like I had to in the above posters link! This is a pain. Heres a picture of the new one. I terminated it with a Canare mini.

hmm...unfortunate...I found someone on the forum who is willing to sell me neutrik for 1.40 canadian I think...so ill just buy a few from him..make it easier on his wallet...im always willing to help out a fellow head-fi-er first...And maybe...Ill think about the big connectors...ill buy both...and make a few... >.<

after I decide which fits the ZVM better...ill decide which i use before I connect the 0.8mm silver wire...

The small one requires fabrication! It is a pain, because during the fabrication you can easily screw it up. The big one fits better, period. But if you'd like, buy both and experience it first hand

ya....ill experience first hand...it looks like i have to just bend two pins...or sand off something...neither are hard...but if the big one works...then that would be much better.

This thread has inspired me to make my own LOD for my ZVM. I've just recently ordered some supplies from Qables.

One quick question though, what exactly does the resistor do? I am guessing it prevents the screen from "Switching into A/V out mode" or something along those lines.

Im pretty sure it allows the dock to be detected... because with out it...you wont get anything out of the LOD

and ya...one of the images works and the other doesnt...because what happens is that the one with the corners missing works and fits in the zvm the other doesnt...

You can turn that feature off in the options...

Alright...that was pointless to say what I said last night...

Its only a <5 min job of fabrication. and I have had my ZVM for so long that I couldn't care less if I had to bend something...and you can also sand/cut off with really great skill the part on the dock...

Ill figure it out...

Really? Do you mind telling me where, I dug through the options but did not find any such setting.

EDIT: Never mind, apparently you have to change video mode from "NTSC" (or "PAL") to "off" and it will not shut off the screen.

Both of those fit the zvm. The one that doesn't is the "slim" dock (unless you fabricate it).

And infinity, your correct. The resistor allows for the dock to be detected.

the slim dock fits the ZV:M Idk where you heard it doesn't.

and yes, the resister is there so the ZV:M detects the dock.

It won't fit my zen. The slots on the bottom of the "slim-line" dock are spaced too far apart to fit properly in the grooves of the ZVM. I chizzled away at the grooves of the dock(brought them in closer to each other) until it fit...?!? Maybe mine is different

I got my Qables order yesterday, which I wasn't expecting for at least another week since it was sent standard international mail (I've had friends wait almost a month for a package to arrive from Europe). It was sent Monday arrived Saturday. I think that's pretty darn good for a shipment from The Netherlands to west coast USA!

I bought the slimline and the standard iPod dock connectors. The standard dock fits fine, but the slimline dock has trouble fitting into the player as wgr73 said:

I'm sure I can make it fit, but I think I like the look/feel of the other dock better, so I'll probably make my first cable with that connector.

I also got a couple of y-splits from Qables. These things are high quality and are gonna come in handy to make a professional looking... "Qable"
