DIY- how to make a 2.5mm 4 pole female to 3.5mm 3 pole male adaptor?

Hello everybody,
I am buying a balanced 2.5mm cable for my L&P L3 player. I wanted to use this cable with unbalanced outputs too. Could anybody share this experience or share the link where I could read how to do that?

What you do is join both "-" signals from the 2.5mm female port to the sleeve of the 3.5mm jack, then just join the R+ and L+ to the corresponding tabs on the 3.5mm.
