Hi,

I have started my first big audio project, to make my own custom in-ear-monitors.

I have bought Shure E500 PTH (older model of se530, actually the same) from ebay with faulty cable for around $80.

I am going to make a custom shell for them and put a detachable cable. Its not going to be easy and maybe the result won't be that good, but i am willing to try.

This guy made a custom in ear monitor with his own BA driver setup!

I wanted to have a more professionally crafted sound and bought shure iem as a signature i like.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i have been reseaching for a couple of days and still haven't decided what detachable cable connection to use.
After searching Europe and China markets (I am from Europe) i have found only one good site for cables and female socket plugs

http://www.lunashops.com/

From there i have narrowed my search to 3 main sockets :

Westone 2 pin                                http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=3569
UE 2 pin                                         http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=3562
Shure mmcx (rhodium or gold? )   http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=3560

I know mmcx is the new plug, but also that it has more problems. Here its much cheaper, the male plugs are the same as price.

Any thoughts ?

Thinking to ditch the detachable cables and make it more easy with directly soldered one, but use silicone not acrylic as ciem material !

Found this site : http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/headphones-earphones-portable-media-devices-314/make-your-own-ciem-home-ciem-discussion-thread-4512447-10.html

They have done exactly what i wanted to do.  Just WOW !!!!

I made my first CIEM, I have to give it to RealSpark from http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg  for his tread it help me A LOT!

Overall I wanted a design as simple as possible. At the end the ciem turn out everything but beautiful, but well it works and it fits me well and thats what is more important.

The right one got yellow, because i used yellow glue inside and overbaked the uv acrylic:S
