Disk scratch removal?

So, owing in part to my carelessness in days gone by (not now, I hasten to add) and owning some second hand CD's, a number in my collection have little scratches on them, which I would like to remove.

I have been looking at various of this type. Do they actually work, and/or is there a better alternative?
