I'm thinking of buying a Sony D-303 Discman(cica'93) which will need a new laser block installed. I've checked with Sony and they have the parts needed.Has any owner of similar vintage Discman needed to replace their laser, and if so what was the outcome. Did the unit work as new?

I have two 303's. One works perfectly but the other is skipping quite a bit. I haven't taken it in for repair as yet, but am anxious to hear what happens when and if you do.

Maybe I'm off but it wouldn't surprise me if the cost to replace and calibrate the laser is easily over $150.00. I'm not really familiar with that player so maybe it's worth it to you.

Phil: Have you already tried increasing the laser current? This usually helps when the laser lens goes blind gradually...
