I guess I'm in the minority with the Sansa Clip since I can't get sufficient bass out of mine. Adding bass with the custom equalizer just adds distortion -- even at low volume. I've tried different phones, firmware and files to no avail. I was using my wife's iAudio G3 and I guess that spoiled me. I must be more of an audiophile than I thought

. I really wanted to like the Clip (4gb package is much nicer than the online photos look) but it just doesn't have enough kick for me. Anybody else concur? I'll keep it for a while longer but will probably return and try an iAudio U3.

What phones have you tried? No, I don't concur at all, at least that it doesn't have sufficient bass, I'm sure the iAudio can pump out more with Mach3Bass.

You can't expect to drive anything larger than px100s with any amount of authority. They sound great with my sf3's, pk3's and px100s.

EQ is not necessary for my phones.

You will have to spend some serious money to better the clip.

However, you could amp the headphone out and experience a world of joy with the added beneft of being able to drive a wider variety of cans

if ya come back and say the bass is lacking then, id say ya lying

. The clip is a pretty serious little player.

Mind if I make a suggestion? Instead of boosting the bass, leave the lowest frequency band at 0, cut the remaining bands as needed, then turn up the volume.

This should take care of Clip clipping problem.

yes i also have feel there is a slight lack of bass in the player, actually its more balanced than bass-light to be exact, but with the right earphones/headphones perhaps bassy ones, the bass would come out abit more, i too was also spoilt by my previous cowon d2 with its mach3bass and bbe effects n others..etc, also somehow the clarity of the sansa clip is also not as good as the ipod shuffle 1st gen too which has a very clean sound [although bass-light too], but i'm sure this clip is better than the other mp3 in its class like the zen stone..etc, but for higher end i guess maybe not?

I'll try jazz mode and eq'ing as Ruben suggested. I have PK2's and am thinking PK3's might have been a better choice -- I think I'll get some PK3's. The PK2's sound great on the G3. I prefer earbuds and don't want an amp. Thanks for the advice.

well the clip does not suffer bass roll off with 16ohm phones like the u3, g3 and d2 do (and most other players). perhaps by bass you mean boom and not sustain. the player you have previously can seriously tweak the 'boom' but cannot sustain the bass over the initial shock of the note.

should drie the m8 very well indeed. it should not do as well with over 80ohm phones as the ipod or d2 does, but in its order of below 50ohm phones, it should smack the hell out of anything really unless you use an impedence adapter, then the other players probably sound as good or better.
