I was inspired by the binaural samples thread in the Music forum to try out my Etys on my home system... Somehow, my Etys just seem to have this ability to disappear - both sonically and feeling-ly. With the Senns on, it's not that they're uncomfortable or bad sounding; it's just that it's "oh, I'm listening to music through headphones" not "hey, where's that music coming from?"...

Weird, eh?

Try a ME preamp for size

My Senns 580's just dissapeared with an enormous soundstage not only wide but deep.

I kept checking to see if my speakers were on too.

Eric,

That's good to hear you are so happy with your Ety's. Seems Ablaze is getting rid of his as he can't stand them in his ears for any length of time. These seems to be one of those headphones that are love/hate in nature. It seems that are very few people that are just in the middle opinion wise!! For those who can wear them it seems unanymous: they're incredible. For those who can't: they can't wait to get rid of them!!!

Shame that ablaze can't stand using them for long periods of time. Lucky for me I got used to them after only a few nights of use. I am still conscious of wearing them but sonically they can 'dissapear' like eric said. When that happens... WOW! I'm still amazed even after a couple of month's use!

Hey-- remember when I dubbed the R10s the "Disappearing Headphone" TM? They truly are. Their comfort combined with their soundstaging abilities natural sound and lack of grit and hash allow you to totally get lost in the music and you forget you have them on.

I don't see how you could forget that you have two tubes jammed into your ear canal milimeters away from your eardrum.

Try as I might, I just couldn't live with the Etys.

no no! I didn't say I can't live with them for ANY period of time. I said AFTER a period of time. anyway, since we're here..whats that effect called when you can suddenly hear your internal body noises (eg. breathing, chewing, pulsating blood vessels in yer ear..) more clearly, when all external noise is amplified?

anyway..I haven't really decided yet, honestly. thats why my thread was carefully worded "interested to buy" and not "WANT to buy"

the internal noises are a little bothersome at times. but not always. and it goes away sometimes..

and from what I've read, the senn 600s EVEN with cardas cables seem extremely controversial, some rate them a 9.5 (like duncan) and lots of others rate them way below my other heard-before phones like the CD3Ks and especially the Etys..why can't decisions be easier dammit! (also, why can't the HP-1000s retail for $300!!

I've never found it a problem; though my ear canals are fairly large so I stick 'em in quite a bit. I mean, sure, I can feel them - I just don't NOTICE them.

Someday I'm going to get meself some custom earmolds... when I stop growing... (hey, I'm 6'3" with size 14 feet and I'm only 15 myself... do ears change much as you're growing?

Ears are primarily made of cartilage, they along with noses...never stop growing...hence old people are their large large noses and ears

Watch LOTR to see two old guys with massive snouts.

ablaze, I believe Greg also said that you tend to hear the cord when it rubs against clothing, and the cable transmits the gust of wind. He also tells he tha he many times gets paranoid wearing them to their outside noise level isolation. He says that many times when he wears them that he has to always look around. (which makes him look like he's paranoid).

I can live with the microphonics actually. maybe cos I don't move too much when listening to music. its just this throbbing in my left ear I can't take. ah well..its been quite an experience listening to the ultra-detailed Ety sound though
