Clipping is a function of power supply limitations and amplifier design.

If turning on the bass boost causes clipping, it's because bass is being boosted to voltages beyond the capabilities of the amplifier's power supply.

Try turning down the volume.

The bass booster function pushes so much volume that the songs clip at fairly normal volumes.

*shrug* design limitation then. Aren't you glad you have Saint Steve of Cupertino making sure everything is perfect?

Do you have the ability do fiddle with custom eq settings? See what 6db at 70hz does for you.

iPod doesn't have a custom EQ, only presets, unfortunately.

Too bad there's no option to lower the preamp.

that's what i thought as well. I mean if the BASS was the only difference, I might as well just cop the 60s and change the equalizer setting on my ipod. I'll try to hit some store who sells em here. If I dont like the sound, I might just try something else.

btw, what are "comfies"?

anyone wanna give me an input about the K240S before I dismiss it?

thanks for everyone's input especially F107plus5. you dropped some major knowledge (no pun intended -for the young crowd)

PS
donunus, are you from the Philippines pare?

Yes Born and raised in the Phillies and currently staying at the Philippines now.

K240s... I really love the comfort. Less clamping force than any big sennheiser but can be sweaty because of the pleather pads. I love the look and feel but as for the sound hmmm it just wasn't defined enough for me. sounds are all over the place. loose and undefined bass compared to other headfi recommended stuff in the same price region. sibilant. I can hear the peak at the lower treble region but lacks air on top. If only a headphone can feel like this and sound great at the same time. I wish!

Comfies are the Flat pads that don't have a hole in the center. They are the ones that come stock with sr60s. The overall sound vs the bowls is more overall boom, more forward midrange and less detail/more congestion because of the foam covering the driver. Its like listening to speakers with the grilles on.

About eq, I like the sr60s using no eq. The bass is just right for most music. Can't do anything about the deepest bass because the grados are not designed to play down to 20hz. The comfies have a sort of good synergy with the sr60s though while the higher end grados tend to be useless upgrades when you use comfy pads because they take away from the detail

Yes, the K240 sextett (not the k240s) is very, VERY good. But also extremley hard to drive, so in this case I would still say go with the 60s.

None of the truly easy-to-drive AKGs are loved here as audiophile cans.

Do look for a K401, K240DF, or K240Sextett some day, when you have an amp. You might like 'em.

FWIW, for your taste I'd go for the SR80 instead. They're a bit harder to drive but you might find the SR80 have more satisfying bass for R&B.

Hey only500made and donuns...musta mga pare? Pinoy din ako...glad to see som fellow pinoy head-fiers here!

Hey 500, where are you getting the 240s here? I bought my sr60's here in Manila, but i dont know where to get some higher-end AKG's, as all the malls and audio shops only carry the cheaper, low-end AKG's. Ive also been waiting more than a month for some AKG k81djs, wala pa daw sabi ng store im getting them from.

As for your question, you cant go wrong with the SR-60's. Really incredible detail, and very easy to drive. The only complaint i have for them is their openness, in that everytime i ride the mrt, all the noise from the outside comes in, making me turn the volunme of my ipod ever so higher (which is why im waiting for the k81dj, and have already ordered mylar x3's from jaben)

grado sr60's are the perfect palce to start the audiophile journey! Just look at the Grado SR60 appreciation thread to see all the testimonials and love for it.

Ok, grados it is. I'll drop by one of these days @ bay and bloor radio to test out the 60s and 80s. I'm gunna come up with a playlist with songs from different genres and whatever sounds good to me in either phones will be copped!

Now that I've compared the entire K240 line, I'll probably sell my K240S and go back to only owning out of production headphones.

Tell me what you think of the k81djs when you get them vs your sr60s. I myself vastly prefer the sr60s
