Hi - I'm working on a mod involving making wireless headphones as some of you might know...
Well, I had the Jensen WB100 bluetooth headphones - but I HATED the sound quality. So, I opened them up to find that the drivers in the headphones are 32 Ohms. Same as the Grado SR60's and SR80's - what luck!
I plan on putting the bluetooth circuitry into a pair of Grado SR60's, and simply soldering the Grado drivers in. This will involve creating new chambers for the headphones to house the 2" circuit boards - using the mod found here: http://www.headwize...file=grado_prj.htm this is obviously very possible (slight modification to the plans described to ensure proper fitting of the circuit boards.

However, the PVC piping mod was described for the SR80. Are the SR60's and SR80's the same in construction? I.E.- Will following the plans for the SR80 work on the SR60? I need to buy the Grados still, so I need to know if I can get away with buying the SR60 instead of the SR80 - as I've already spent quite a bit of money on this mod and a recent mispurchase of headphones I *thought* would work (now for sale in the FS forum).

Thanks!
-Tom

ANY help at all?

All I want to know is if the SR60 and the SR80 share the same dimensions and materials etc (i.e.-same headphones, different drivers with no other changes).

The SR80 is basically a SR60 with bowl pads and upgraded cable. Although it's not spelled out, you can infer they use the same drivers

yes, nearly exactly the same in every way except for the different pads.. which are irrelvant for your situation. let us know how the mod turns out!

Eh? 20? What?

Oh, and thank you everybody! Just sealed the deal on the SR60 I was offered - Hopefully the mod will be completed soon, and I will post a thread on it. Heh, and if I mess up, you'll see a "*For Parts*" sale in the FS forum!

I'm late getting to this thread, but I just got the Jensen 'phones myself, so a couple of thoughts, most of which are probably, again, too late:

1) Drop a couple of Koss ksc-35 or -75 drivers in the existing Jensen unit-- that's got to be simpler than transplanting the transponder, amp and battery into a Grado, attractive as the prospect may be. Possible downside: high sensitivity of the Koss drivers might make amp hiss more apparent.

2) It occurs to me that the amp in the Jensen might be band-limited to save battery power. So you kill a pair of Grados and find you aren't getting much more bass you got with the Jensen drivers. Remains to be seen-- the only way to find out is to try it.

3) Any Bluetooth sonic weirdness is only going to be more apparent, maybe too apparent, with the Grados. Again, remains to be seen, but prepare yourself for some sonic disappointments in the noise, bass and artifacts departments. Temporarily hook the Grados up to the Jensen amp before you rip the Grados apart. That way if it sounds like @#$%, why, you've got a pair of Grados for wired use, and that ain't a waste of money nohow.

Like the Grados, the Jensens were engineered as a system and built to a size as well as a price, so I have this gut feeling that if you try to improve one part of it you'll find you have to improve all part$ of it, and there goe$ the good $50 deal you got. Not that experimenting is ever a bad thing, but I think that the experiment should be of a piece with the original item, which is why I like my cheapskate KSC drop-in suggestion.

Just a thought.
