Hey, I am another telephone conecction in the house and I found out I'll have a lot of spare cable. Since my Grados SR-60 have been dead for a while I was wondering if I could use it for them. I know it's not CAT-5 cable, but I was wondering if it would make a good cable. Thanks and please don't ignore this post.

Hey Eric, thanks. How about CAT-5. I think I can get it in the office for free. Any special recomendations, like gauge or something like that?

Hey Zbuddah. Thanks, that's the one I was thinking about.

Hey ofb. There´s no system yet, at least nothing worth mentioning. Just portables and a set of cans in need of repair. But yes, I am aware of the use of magnet wire as interconnect. I have some speaker designs in mind and would probably use magnet wire with them, but that's gonna be some time in the future. Of course, maybe I can try to use magnet wire for the cans. I wonder how stiff or fragile it would be.

hey bud ,'bout time you bounced over to MY DOMAIN , hehe

The reason why cat5 is good for audio cables is the solid wires are made of a high purity copper and the 24 guage size is ideal for low level audio.

The wire is also pretty flexible so again it works well.

For the Grados I would suggest the cat 5 and then case it in the original rubber cable cover and use the same plug.

Another maybe easier way would be to purchase theGrado headphone extension cable , cut it to length and replace the old with the same or maybe even better cable

Another suggestion , since you are already doing surgery on the cans whynot add a mini phone jack to the headphones ?

This would make changing cables a snap

oh yeah-magnet wire--again the copper purity is very high
which makes it good for audio work.I would try the 24 guage, maybe 36 , but the thirty can be hell to work with.

Kind like trying to solder a strand of hair !
