Hi,

I´m thinking about buying a Sennheiser HD-580. I tried that headphone on a shop, but there was just the demonstration model, which already looked a little bit worn. So I searched on some online-shops for the HD-580 and found two different versions, the "HD 580-1" and the "HD 580-II Precision". The latter one seems to be a little bit more expensive. I ´couldn´t see any optical difference between this two. Is there any difference? I even don´t know, which version I´ve tried on the shop. Which one I should order?

Thanks for any help,

Chris

i believe the earlier version suffered the intermittent jack problem and the newer version doesnt get it as often.

I don't think so. The anniversary edition is the HD 580 Jubilee, identical to the HD 600 except for the faux marble finish which looks different.

arrghhh, you're right. i owned the jubilee with certificate etc. it was indeed the foundation for the hd 600. because the demand for the jubilee was so high, yet it was limited to a couple of thousand, they desided to make the hd 600 available(wich is a vamped up hd580 jubilee). I owned both the jubilee and the hd 600 and the hd 600 sounded slightly better then the jubilee. so, i don't think they where the same.

then, i don't know what the difference is between those two!

guess the answer is to e-mail the shop. having owned, and ditched, both the 580 and 600; here's what i'd want to hear: "Dear Potential Customer, the II model has the re-engineered cable sockets which greatly reduce the chances of contact intermittency. However, if you should experience this, we will repair the headphone forthwith".

Actually the HD600/650s have no such thing as a carbon fiber exterior. It's all plastic. AFAIK the only carbon fiber part is a small internal support to the drivers. Supposedly it resonates less than it's equivalent plastic sibling in the HD580s. It may be just an urban legend thing though. I've never seen irrefutable evidence that Sennheiser cans really contain carbon fiber parts.

I agree that the HD580s are an infinitely better deal than the HD600s. You should only pay twice as much for something that basically sounds the same if money is absolutely no object.

Cheers,
Alex
