I was chilling out today to Sheila Chandra - ABoneCroneDrone, and thought it would be interesting to pick up some Didgeridoo based music. For those who don't know what that is, here's the wikipedia entry for that instrument:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didgeridoo

I fairly randomly picked out and ordered the following cd's from the library system here:
Didjeridu master / David Blanasi
Didje blows the games / Ankala & WorldOrchestra

Is anybody more familiar with this type of music? Any suggestions on cd's to pick up?

I am somewhat familiar with the aboriginal instrument the didjeridu. The Australian Aborigines believe the didjeridu “re-creates creation” through its all-enveloping tone, insuring the cycles of life on earth will continue. This instrument and its toneality go back over 40K years..

You may want to pick up any tribal and aboriginal recordings, the more primitive -the harder to obtain and better..in other words, a lot of the commercial released material has a pop sound to it, or a non-unified traditional theme.

There is some fancy and well recorded didjeridu on shpongle I, "Are you Shpongled"...this is a disgusting cd to have in your collection if you can find. It is on the Twisted Records label out of the UK..out of print but can be had if you are searching. If you want info on this music project, click on the quote in my sig

There is a superb album named "The Healing Didjeridu" by Kimba Arem
Also, there is an album of cross genres by the name of "Celtic Didjeridu" off of the Hart Records Label that is great.

Finally, there is a great album called "The Art of the Didjeridu: Selected Pieces 1987-1997" off the Black Sun Records Label that is really well recorded and contains various sounds and relations of the intstrument..depicting its use in various styles..
This recording is by the world reknown didjeridu player in the world David Hudson

I have others too, am just braind dead righ now

Excellent, thanks for the tips! I just found and ordered "Are you Shpongled" and "The Art of the Didjeridu: Selected Pieces 1987-1997" in the library system. Should have them any day.

Cryptopsy featured a didgeridoo on a few tracks of And Than You'll Beg.
Quite the antithesis of "chill music"

I think that you should check out Yigi Yigi by David Hudson.

Halcyon Days by Roach/Kent/Newby is a gorgeous set of didgeridoo-based work where the powerful, primitive bellows of the instrument is married to a delicately-crafted, panoramic electronic soundscape. Must hear for any fan of this instrument. For a rougher sound, go for Origins by Steve Roach.

Stephen Kent has some solo didgeridoo projects, but I've yet to got them. Mark Atkins is another renowned player of the instrument, but his records are harder to get.

And so it was that my love for Shpongle began....thanks mate. Everyone who likes electronic music, though not necessarily dance, should definitely check this group out.
