yes, it's out for sure. besides that it sounds a little more stable like that, the tube just get too hot for me to feel comfortable it's installed.

I have it out also. it takes up too much power that the rest of the circuits need.

I have one DI/O that has not only the tube, but the tube's power supply completely removed. If I've left the power supply in, I leave the tube in (I've got two DI/O's with tube). The tube doesn't generate anywhere near the heat that the voltage regulators do, incidentally.

A poster on the Diomods group once did some measurements with an o-scope, and determined that removing the tube could lead to some instability in the circuit if the power supply components were still there (not always, though).

The tube is needed if you're ever going to use the DI/O for A to D conversions.

And I was expecting this to be a poll... perhaps there's hope for you yet

I never bothered, my unit's on 24/7 and just doesn't get hot. It's warm to the touch, but nothing to be concerned with. I did go for the Stancor powersupply (cheap & easy) but didn't really want to mess with the internals.

I did read somewhere that if you remove the tube you should place a piece of electrical tape over the tube socket as it could arc... I just don't remember where I read it.
