Perhaps the family derives their name from their place of origin.

or, as is often the case, visa-versa

My last name is Morton, and I believe there's a town in Scotland named Morton (at least that's what I've been told). Coincidence?

I think if alot of us googled our last name we would probably find a town somewhere in the world with the same name.

It was common to take the name of one's birthplace when they entered the country. most likely when the first Immigrant that landed in the USA from Italy in the Grado family had a different last name but either changed it himself or was changed by the person writing his/her papers. It's common that the first name is altered also with lot's of my Italian friends that came direct from Italy.

havent you people ever watched God Father?

Wait.... how is it pronounced? Gray-do or Grah-do?

Regardless of how the town is pronounced, John Grado pronounces his name Gray - doh. . If memory serves me someone specifically asked him in an interview how to pronounce his last name and that's what he said. When you call the company, they answer the phone "Gray - doh" Labs

I'm assuming John Grado pronounces the "Grado" the same way Joseph Grado pronounced it.

That'd be a funny one if Joseph Grado the founder said "Grah-doh" and John Grado (nephew) said "Gray-doh". Then we'd have bit of a conundrum.
