Did I make a Boo Boo?

I got a Sound card a few weeks back...sound is better than my stock...but Should I have just gotten a USB DAC?

I had about 160 to spend at the time but spent $40 on a old Audigy Platinum that still sounds great.

Also...should I be looking into any mods for my soundcard before I decide to move to a DAC?...also any suggestions in the $150 price range? Kits are okay as well.

I think i was in a similar situation. so maybe i will input my learnings from reading various threads here.

if you want to not go to dac solution first should get the XFI and look into modding it... (search mod)

if you want to go a bit higher and throw dac with your setup and an amplifier... get a cheap chaintech soundcard and do bitperfect to dac and then amp and you will be fine. At that point if you wanted to change the flavour of sound you just replace dac and/or amp.
