I came to this thread for more info and impressions on this HP and came across this comment.

My curiosity level is high now. @HiFiGuy528 have both Diana and Diana Phi but I think he hasn't reviewed the Phi yet. My local dealer doesn't have the Phi for demo so I need to be sure before I pull the trigger. Care to share your input, Mike? :D

If you are not adverse to the styling I would recommend giving the AB-1266 PHI TC a try. I had the Diana for a bit of time and will say that it was great and I could drive it from try sp1000cu but the 1266 is on another level.

The same store actually have the 1266 for demo the other day and I get to try it. Unfortunately, I do mind about the styling haha. I mean it looks awesome being displayed but I can't bring myself to wear it. I tried to put it on and didn't really like how it fit. I've read glowing reviews about it though. Everyone seems to be saying it's the best headphone ever, period.

Yes the look is strange but with the LCD 4Z when i had them i thought that it looked pretty ridiculous if I looked in the mirror too. The empyrean is gorgeous but looks big on the head too. The fit on the ab1266 takes some trial to get right. it also take some time to get used to the fact that they don't really clamp on your head as well. Once you get the fit right you are rewarded with the best sound that I have ever heard from a headphone. I have yet to hear the HE-1 so that might change things but it is now $60k so that is out of reach and if I had that money i can think of some great speakers that I would rather have.

Now that I think back, I know why I haven't heard the sound from the 1266. That day I got to try it on in the store, his amp blew up or something so I can't audition the sound :joy:...which is why I didn't bother trying to fit it properly. Might come back there once they open again and give it a proper go.

Don't let the intimidating appearance of the AB-1266 fool you, once you have invested some time in adjusting the frame and pads to fit your head / jawbones shape, they most likely will turn up being much more comfortable than you would think.

I can listen to them for many hours straight with no pain or fatigue whatsoever, mostly thanks to the lack of pressure on my ears, to which I am quite sensitive ... just forget headbanging :L3000:

there's no fooling when it comes to the weight of the ab-1266/phi tho - 640 grams. the diana/phi weighs 310 grams less, which is significant for a headphone imo.

This is true but coming from audeze cans like the LCD x and 4z the ab1266 is still not that bad. Especially when compared to the old audeze headband. The diana phi is really comfortable though.

the weight of both the audeze lcd series (with wood cups) and the abyss are comparable. they are big, heavy headphones and the diana thankfully isn't imo.

do the v2 ear pads change the sound of the diana in any way?

Yep, different acoustics, a bit more spacious soundstage...

    Larger earpads just arrived!
Wow these are comfy, I have go back on click on my headband (I had the headband set two clocks down, now it is only one click down). I will probably use these pads exclusively now, a little surprised as I prefer the small pads over the large for my Cascades.

The sound is very good, I’m just listing to Chad Lawson’s “The space between” for the first time so I can’t comment on increase of soundstage...but it is impressive as always with Diana

My partner is still asleep but I am interested to see if these make the Diana usable to her... previous they were so uncomfortable she couldn’t even comment on sound.

Success, my partner now finds the Diana comfortable with the new pads, she has been dancing around the apartment to A Tribe Called Red, even commenting on how realistic the drum sounds.
