Longtime lurker here, finally decided to make an account. A bit of an odd request, but I'm looking to pick up a pair of analytical / neutral IEM's.
A bit about myself: Professional audio engineer (Tracking / Mixing) looking to get a pair of reference IEM's. I definitely prefer solid-state amps, anything with tube warmth bothers me quite a bit. Current headphones are Sony MDR-V6, Sony MDR-7506, AKG k553 Pro, AKG k7xx w/ Moon Audio Silver Dragon, Sennheiser HD600 w/ Cardas Clear, Sennheiser HD800 w/ Cardas Clear, Beyerdynamic DT770 M.
Personally, I prefer the HD800's very closely followed by the HD600's, and often switch depending on the day. I've been considering getting a pair of ATH m70x's as closed-back references, but the fact that neither Moon nor Cardas seems to sell aftermarket cables for those has me waiting. My least favorite is probably the k553, followed by the DT 770M, but the closed-back headphones are usually what I give artists in case they aren't satisfied with whatever the studio has.
All of this runs into a Neve RNHP, which comes out of the D/A of a Grace m905. I have a Prism Lyra 2 (D/A + Amp) for on-the go / travel use when I need to get work done, and I've recently begun bringing my newly acquired RNHP along with it as well. I've demoed and liked the D/A from Lavry and Benchmark, and the amp sections from both of those and the Grace m920 I like as well. I actively dislike the converters coming out of Antelope audio, and I think that Schiit leans a little bit on the sweet side, although I haven't demoed the Yggdrasil, Gungnir or Ragnarok.
That being said, I'm looking for an IEM on the colder side of neutral (as that's what I generally seem to prefer going by other head-fi'ers descriptions) cost isn't an issue (under $2.5k USD at least) but I'd like to be absolutely sure of a purchase over $500, especially if they are custom-fit IEM's as those are impossible to resell. I also realize that I might need to get another amp to properly drive a pair of IEM's, if necessary any suggestions for those as well would be nice.
In case any of you guys are familiar with studio monitors, I also use/prefer a pair of Amphion One15's, Yamaha NS10's and Neumann KH120's, as well as Avantone MixCubes.
