Hey everyone, I'm looking for a Desktop stereo set with the sound signature very similar to Stax (507 & 007MK1) I'm pairing them with Schiit dac (modi 2 U & wyrd). The reason it has to be a desktop set is because I have a relatively small workspace/room in my house.

Here's a list of speaker's I've auditioned and it's not what I want or couldn't fit into the room;
Martin Logan ESL series (gets in the way when I work, nearly broke it when I tripped over it plus I'm being realistic, I don't expect a desktop setup to sound remotely close to this ONE

)
Audioengine 5+ with s8 (sounds... Empty? s8 sounds good for it's size)
Yamaha HS8 (feels like it's holding back and woody/boxy?)
KRK Rockit 8 (perfect size, almost no detail compared to what I prefer)
Adam A7x (I actually expected quite a lot of this because it has good specs and parts but perhaps my inflated expectations didn't do any justice so didn't wow me, lack detail and airiness of esl)
Kef x300a (advise: don't use their wireless options, SQ is considerably lower than usb which is far lower than 3.5mm jack. Honestly this is probably the worst pair I've tried, it's very musical but that's just it, it sounds nice but not alive)
JBL LSR308 (almost around Yamaha HS8...)

I couldn't get my hands on any monsoon MM-1000 in Malaysia, can anyone tell me how it sounds relatively to Stax? and if you know where to get one?

In2uit Volute doesn't seem to be available yet or it's just a concept on their website? Anybody have any information about this? I've emailed them but they haven't replied yet.

So far my plan is to wait for news of the Volute and if it's no go the I'll get two in2uit filo where I split the audio out from Modi2u and add a small sub which also comes out from the Modi2u which most likely cause a drop of source quality.

Hope you guys have a good lead for me to follow through. Thanks in advance!

Edit:
I forgot to add my room size is 8'x11' or 8.18m² (yes the One was only a few feet apart and it was ridiculously silly) what's I'm currently doing is extended the Stax cable and hung it from the middle of the ceiling so I could walk around the room. If I could get my hands on the MM-1000 then I'll place them on 4 corners and hang the sub in the middle as well. all 4 walls is ceiling tall bookshelves so sound insulations is pretty decent.

No, I'm not going to make a laughing stock of myself with my hanging Stax by showing you guys a photo...

If that's what you're looking for then the first thing you'll need to check is the driver type. You'll need to narrow down your options to speakers that use a full planar/electrostat driver; however, there aren't many of them, mostly because these driver types are less efficient than dynamic drivers with bass in terms of surface area to bass response (range and loudness) ratio, mostly because dynamic drivers can "pump" and "pound" out the bass (of course, the whole point in planar and electrostat is to avoid that distortion-prone pumping motion to begin with).

Here's the Mini Maggie from Magnepan. It can also be ordered with a dedicated bass module, just like the MMG.

Here's a hybrid studio monitor from Samson featuring a ribbon tweeter.

Thanks Protege, it's been a very long time but since they aren't available in the region I'm living in, and their shipping + price is expensive, I could only audition them when the opportunity to travel came around.

The Mini Maggie, as you have said it in you reply, it seriously lacks bass from the lower mid down. It almost sounds like the Stax Lambda or Basic series. I suppose the Martin Logan solved that by pairing the ESL with a Dynamic Driver.

The Samson on the other hand doesn't fit the bill. The ESL has a very airy sound where the room fills up with music, the Air Displacement Tweeter sounds just like the Air Motion Transformer. In a more specific explanation, it's almost like I wouldn't be able to pin point the source of the music with my eyes closed when the ESL is playing, but the Samson is just like every other speakers, it's directional.

I guess the search continues. Thanks again ProtegeManiac.

What does that mean? If it's sounds nice and musical, why is the the worse? what is "alive" ? I'm really trying to understand because i was considering buying them.

Sorry, my english isn't very good. What I ment to say was the opposite of 'Airy soundstage'. As in it sounds musical but at the same time confined, a stuffy uncomfortable kind of feeling when compared with ESL's or the AMT's.

Worse as in if compared to ESL's or AMT's, in such a way it's like comparing Roxanne to EX1000, both is great in their own technologies but a huge difference in sound signatures. If you had auditioned ESL speakers before then you'll know that difference, frankly speaking my vocabulary is limited so I don't know how to describe the unique sound ESL has.

In the end it depends on your technology preferences, I'm a fan of ESL tech, and ESL has a very unique sound signature that fills the room with music, when placed well the sound source seems to disappear and you'll feel that you're IN the recording studio while the band plays around you.
