Hey there Head-Fi'ers!

I'm new to this place and I have gotten to understand the apologies to my wallet! Nevertheless, my journey continues! I'm looking for a "budget" DAC that has a built-in-amp? I wonder what people would suggest here?

I have: HD555's, KSC75, and PX100s... so is it even worth buying?

Thanks!

What is your source? Computer or portable DAP? What is your idea of a "budget" setup? Name your price.

i have an audigy2zs for my COMPUTER! budget would be best if it stuck around $100, but if that is being too stingy... $200?

you could.
1. Corda aria- it uses a usb input to a dac that then does to an amplifier.
2. usb M-audio transit to coaxial zhaolu dac+upgraded headamp
3. usb M-audio transit to citypulse 7.2 dac
4. usb to Headroom micro stack
5. usb M-audio transit to Lavry or Benchmark Dac-1
6. Icarus dac/amp combo

$100 is probably not enough if you want both a DAC and amp. Bump up to $150-200 and you have great possibilities.

I've recently discovered the PINT amp from DIY land, and I'm looking more to DIY gear for my needs. So, in light of my recent discoveries, I'll bring to your attention a couple of possible DIY solutions for you. You can assemble these yourself or have someone do it for you.

Consider the HPDAC for a all-in-one solution. It's a USB DAC with a PINT amp section. I have no experience with the HPDAC but I can tell you that the PINT sounds awesome. Check out http://www.ecp.cc/HPDAC.html for details. I read that the cost is $150-200.

Another solution is to get an Alien DAC (another USB DAC) and pair it with an amp. Again, I have no experience with the Alien DAC but it's supposed to be very affordable (~$100?) and sound good. Another $50-100 for an amp and you're good to go.

Both the HPDAC and Alien DAC are very small and portable.

Both the KSC75 and PX100 respond to using a dedicated headphone amp. Generally speaking, the sound will tighten, offer a little better extension (or is that simply the result of better clarity.. dunno) and the bass will have more punch.
